Coverage That Fits Your Life, Not a Group Plan
Individual health insurance is rarely a one-size situation. Whether you've left a job, aged off a parent's plan, or are approaching Medicare eligibility, I help you find coverage that actually makes sense for where you are right now — without the runaround.
Who I Work With on Individual Coverage
Most of my business is helping employers build benefits programs, but some situations call for individual coverage — and when they do, I'm a direct line, not a call center.
I work with individuals in three main situations:
- Employees leaving group coverage after a job change, layoff, or retirement
- People turning 65 and navigating Medicare enrollment for the first time
- Self-employed individuals and contractors who need to find their own coverage
If you're in one of these situations and you're not sure where to start, a short conversation usually gets you oriented fast.
ACA Marketplace Coverage: What It Is and When It Makes Sense
The ACA Marketplace — often called the Health Insurance Exchange — offers individual and family health plans with income-based subsidies that can significantly reduce your monthly premium. Enrollment is time-sensitive, so knowing your window matters.
You're eligible to enroll or change plans during:
- The annual Open Enrollment Period (typically November through January)
- A Special Enrollment Period triggered by a qualifying life event — losing job-based coverage, getting married, having a child, or moving to a new coverage area
Missing your enrollment window can mean going without coverage until the next Open Enrollment Period. If you've recently lost employer coverage, you have 60 days from the loss of coverage to enroll in a Marketplace plan.

Medicare Guidance Without the Confusion
Medicare enrollment has more moving parts than most people expect — Part A, Part B, Part D, Medicare Advantage, Medigap supplements — and the timing of when you enroll affects your costs for years. I help individuals turning 65, or those approaching Medicare eligibility due to disability, understand their options before making a decision they'll live with long-term.
I don't sell Medicare plans directly, but I connect clients with trusted resources and help them ask the right questions before they commit to a plan structure.
2
Short-Term Health Coverage
If you're between jobs, waiting for employer benefits to begin, or in a gap between coverage periods, short-term health insurance can bridge that window. These plans aren't a substitute for comprehensive coverage, but they can provide meaningful protection when you're temporarily without it.
I can walk you through whether a short-term plan makes sense for your situation or whether a Marketplace Special Enrollment Period is the better path.

- Plain-language explanations of plan differences, costs, and trade-offs
- Help understanding subsidy eligibility and how your income affects your premium
- Guidance on enrollment timing so you don't miss a critical window

Common Questions
What happens to my health insurance when I leave my job?
When employer-sponsored coverage ends, you typically have a few options: COBRA continuation coverage, which extends your current plan but at full cost; an ACA Marketplace plan through a Special Enrollment Period; or, if you're eligible, enrollment in a spouse's employer plan. You have 60 days from losing coverage to act on most of these options, so timing matters. How do I know if I qualify for a subsidy on the ACA Marketplace?
Subsidy eligibility is based on your household income relative to the federal poverty level. For most people, if your income falls between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level, you'll qualify for a premium tax credit that reduces your monthly cost. The Marketplace uses your estimated annual income to calculate eligibility, and you reconcile the actual amount when you file your taxes. When should I start thinking about Medicare enrollment?
Your Initial Enrollment Period for Medicare begins three months before the month you turn 65 and extends three months after. Enrolling late — particularly for Part B — can result in a permanent premium penalty. If you're still on employer coverage at 65, different rules apply depending on the size of your employer. Starting the conversation at least six months before your 65th birthday gives you enough runway to make a well-informed decision. Can you help me if I'm self-employed and need my own coverage?
Yes. Self-employed individuals are among the most common people I help with individual coverage. Depending on your income and whether you've structured your business as an LLC or S-corp, you may have access to Marketplace subsidies or be able to deduct your premiums. I can help you understand what's available and what makes sense for your situation.Do you charge a fee for helping with individual coverage?
No. Like most independent brokers, I'm compensated by the insurance carrier when a plan is placed. You don't pay more by working with me than you would going directly to the carrier — and you get someone in your corner who can explain your options clearly.
